Client: Spanning
Subject: Battle in the Cloud
Live Date: September 2011

Description: CEO Charlie Wood of Spanning approached Heinley projects to work with JDI on a bundle of infographics highlighting his companies strengths in the Cloud computing domain.

The goal over three separate graphics is to enlighten viewers about how much data and statistical information Spanning has to play with in regards to the companies in the cloud like Google Apps, Salesforce, Oracle and many of the other leaders in the space.

When we were batting around ideas, it came up that what Spanning was doing was not unlike what a journalist does in a war, namely reporting the truth from the front lines. This is powerful to businesses that are looking to have an edge. Knowledge is power.

With the Battle in the Cloud theme, and Charlie's flight experience.. this seemed like a great way to make some visually interesting infographics out of data that might not otherwise have been as invigorating!

Client: Homeaway / VRBO
Subject: Two Anniversaries
Live Date: June 2011

Description: Homeaway's goal for this particular infographic was to illustrate and highlight some of their unique properties around the world, as well as show some of the statistical information that related to their dominance in the market.

In the initial meeting, it was discussed that the graphic should be fun, interesting, and eye-catching and should display a somewhat worldly view of things.

After some initial sketches and subsequent weeks of production, we ultimately arrived at a solution that worked for everyone, and elevated the spirit that Homeaway was putting to it's customers.

Client: Zenoss
Subject: The State of Open Source Adoption.
Live Date: August, 2010

Goal: Highlight assumptions and myths that the proprietary community might be exhisting under, namely, that open source was somehow inferior to proprietary software.

The big shocker and the main reason for the graphic was the figure that 98% of enterprise businesses were using open source platforms.

Aftermath: TBD

Note: I included another image below to show the original idea for the proprietary guy, which showed a kind of shlubby doofus on a coin-op playhorse, indicating that proprietary was the poorer choice that costed too much. The client balked at the last minute for some reason, and we switched to the donkey version last minute.

We worked very closely with Jones-Dilworth to make this graphic happen. <img src="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/29865/662625/Screen shot 2010-09-27 at 3.17.45 PM.png" border="0" width="611" height="377" width_o="611" height_o="377" src_o="http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/0/29865/662625/Screen shot 2010-09-27 at 3.17.45 PM_o.png" align="left" />

Client: Aptimize
Subject: To highlight the slowest load times of the Microsoft Sharepoint Network.
Live Date: TBD

Description: Aptimize has the ability to significantly decrease load times on websites. The goal is to target companies using MIcrosoft Sharepoint not Sharepoint directly. If a site is slow to load, it will needlessly cost the company a great deal of money, so.. Aptimize to the rescue!

Visually, we decided to capitalize on the success of our previous Fortune 500 graphic. The goal, again, was to semi-consciously equate 'old' with 'slow' and simply show the top offenders. Aged graph paper, cut-and-paste pencil graphics, and rubber-stamped names all lend themselves to the 'old' visual cues. The tortoise really drives the 'slow' point home.

Description: To highlight the chatter and the sentiment around the the 2010 TV Finales. Client: Givoo
Date: Early June 2010

The goal was to make a compelling graphic that would light-heartedly inform people about the realities around the BP Oilspill disaster in the Gulf Coast. It's a heavy subject, and people at that time were either not believing the story, or were already weary about the news. Our approach was meant to lighten the tone a bit, yet give some serious data.

Client: Viral Heat
Subject: Total Mentions and Sentiment during a 1 month duration for Gowalla and Foursquare.
Live Date: April 22, 2010 / Mashable: Foursquare vs. Gowalla: Who's winning the Geolocation War?

Goal: Show off the Viral Heat specific data (They use semantic web algorithms to establish Sentiment) in a creative and interesting way.

There were alot of questions leading up to SXSW 2010 surrounding the 'war' between Gowalla and Foursquare (and others), and who would win. We felt that the more interesting question was whether or not SXSW had any effect on either of the companies AFTER the show since both companies had spent enormous amounts of money on Marketing and PR. Post SXSW, this great visualization by SimpleGeo was posted.

Both companies won if the question was 'Was there increased marketshare?", but Foursquare clearly had higher volume of users mentioning their service. That being said, users were 17% more positive towards Gowalla. This could be perceived as the more interesting metric in many ways.

Aftermath (Updated April 23, 2010) Retweets: 1049; Facebook Share: 332; Google Buzz: 19
